No Matter What! The Power of Decision

The opportunity to live was granted to us when we decided to cut drugs and alcohol out of our life. Addiction was a demon that was stealing everything from us, but recovery has given us the power to make decisions, and to live a life based on these decisions and our beliefs about ourselves.

There comes a time in our addiction recovery when the decision to cut drugs and alcohol has become a way of life, and now we need to decide to live the life we have always wanted to live.

good morning good morning everybody and welcome to the recovered on purpose show Monday motivation I hope you had an incredible incredible weekend and you are ready for this week to start it has already started and we are going after it this week today we’re talking about no matter what the power of decisions and let me know where you’re coming in from if you’re watching this on the replay if you’re watching it right now tell me where you’re coming in from what you’re clean and sober date is and any decisions that come up for you if you want to declare them in the comments let me know because I want to stand with you in these decisions that we’re making and I actually was reading in Proverbs today and I wanted to start this off with a proverb because a lot of us in our addiction we we had bad habits and we made this decision we made this decision that no matter what we’re not going to pick up we’re not going to pick up dope we’re not going to pick up alcohol and we’re done with that and now in our recovery there are other decisions that we need to make and there’s things that we’re doing myself included that we need to cut out of our life in order to progress to the next level and there’s a proverb I was reading Proverbs today and this one just stuck out at me it just stuck out at me fools are famous for repeating their heirs like dogs are known to return to their vomit and that is that’s a a vision you know that’s a vision of really a really clear you know thing that we can see happening if we have something that we’re doing in our life right now that we know we want to cut out that we know would be valuable for our life to cut out why is it that we keep going back to it why is it that we keep doing this thing that we know we don’t want to do that we know is not good for us are we smoking are we gambling are we watching porn what are we doing in our lives that we need to cut out and if we’re if we’re continuing to do this the same way that a that a dog returns to his vomit I for one do not want to be a fool and if I find something in my life that I need to cut out it is time it is time right now and I’m declaring this overall you anything in your life right now that you want to cut out today is the day to cut it out today is the day because there’s so much life to live in recovery and there is nothing holding you back there’s nothing holding you back now and these things that that are holding us back from our potential right these things that we know if we cut them out are these things that we know if we added them in these things that we need to do with our life today is the day to do them today is the day I’m gonna hop in the comments good morning Carrie good to see you always good to see you Taylor good to see you we got 4 13 22 we got uh five months in the house way to go Taylor coming up on six months morning Aaron good to see you coming in from Australia good to see you brother all right so this is a good proverb for today anything that we need to cut out I want you to start thinking about things in your life right now that are going on that are going on with you that that one thing that you know that you want to cut out be thinking about that during this live okay this is a short live again we’ve got about 12 minutes left so this is the definition this is like the the dictionary definition of decision decision a conclusion or resolution after consideration so this thing that we’re looking at this thing that you know we want to add into our life or maybe we want to cut out of our life we are making a conclusion after we have considered the facts about it so we’re going to look at the pros and cons of having this thing in our life what is that thing that’s in your life right now what is it actually adding to your life by doing this thing every day this thing that you know you don’t want to be doing and what would be the proactive the positive things that would happen if we cut that out of your life today what would that make you turn into who would you be able to become if you got rid of that thing also we have conquered drugs and alcohol people that have not dealt with Heroin meth alcohol addiction cocaine addiction people that don’t know what it’s like to use drugs and drink alcohol against your will can’t understand the power that we now have in our recovery we have a power within us a greater power than ourselves to cut out anything that we need to cut out we can cut out anything in our life that we need to cut out to become the person that is most able to help people people and to be of Maximum service to God that’s what we’re called to do so the the root of this word okay decision decision part of the of the word means to cut literally means to cut so if you think about a doctor an incision they’re cutting into something they’re cutting into something okay now a decision when you when you come up with that conclusion when you conclude that you want to do this certain thing with your life if it’s not going to be something that you are cutting out if it’s going to be something that you are adding in that thing that you’re adding in that you’re going to do every single day that habit that exercise that reading that meditating that prayer every single day that means that you are cutting out whatever else you are going to be doing with that time and if it’s something that you are cutting out a decision means that you are done no matter what I am not doing that thing anymore because I am someone that wants to become the best me I want I want you to understand that there is a greater you on the other side of a decision period same with me every single day you and I are making decision after decision after decision it wasn’t just one decision to quit drugs and alcohol we had to do a bunch of decisions on our way there to do the work to Fellowship to get in the community to get a job with all of these decisions that we had to make day in and day out day in and day out we now have the power to make these decisions to make these decisions that could change our life to be the person that we’ve always wanted to be and this today today is the day to become that person right now so here’s five questions to ponder your decisions today okay and I want you to think about these remember we were talking about what that thing is that you’re thinking about because each and every one of us has something in our life we either want to cut out or we want to add into our life and at the beginning of the show I had you thinking about that so I want you to think about you know that area of your life while we go through these questions okay

am I doing something today that represents who I desire to become so if we’re doing something today right that could be that could mean anything that could mean you know are we are we exercising are we reading are we actually calling addicts that are out there suffering are we actually going out and helping people that are suffering are we are we thinking about ourselves what are what are we doing and who do we want to become do we want to become somebody that is out helping tons of addicts tons of people that are suffering where we used to suffer do we want to be that person is there something that we can do today and change about our life today a decision that we can make today that would begin to make us into the optimal person to be in a position to do that for addicts out there is there some way that you or I can become a better person to be of Maximum service to God and the people around us and the addicts out there that are suffering there’s so many of them right now it says about 21 million in America alone are suffering with substance use disorder and there’s 22 million of us in America alone that have recovered from this thing that aren’t drinking alcohol that aren’t using drugs we are called we are chosen we are the only ones that can actually get out and help these people it’s what we’re supposed to do so if this is something if you if this is who you want to become it’s if this is who I want to become is who we are being today are the decisions we’re making today every single minute is that representing someone that is able to do that at the maximum level be able to help hundreds of addicts or thousands of addicts what do you want to do today

what is one thing in your life right now that is holding you back from making your dream life a reality so if at the beginning of the show when we were thinking about you know the area of your life right the area of your life that that you are wanting to improve in that you’re wanting to cut something out of when you’re thinking about that is there something that pops out at you that is actually holding you back something that you’re doing every day right now that is actually holding you back this could be this could literally be are you waking up and getting on your phone for an hour on Facebook are you are you smoking cigarettes are you vaping are you you know watching porn what is it that’s going on in your life right now that you understand that you understand right now would be not only beneficial but optimal to cutting out of your life or something that you need to add in what is one thing that you could add in that would make your dream life more likely to come true and what is one thing that’s holding you back the thing that’s holding you back could be the thing that you’re not putting into your life right now and then many of us many of us have something we could cut out of our life that we need to do today it’s time hop in the comments real quick

Shreveport good morning Delray good to see you pinky good morning woke up no hangover no addiction I am an alcoholic in recovery sober since 11 120 God is great amen amen Penny good to see you good morning good morning Brit seven months sober on the fourth let’s go congratulations Brit good to see you always good to see you all right back to the questions we’re on question three and these are five questions to ponder for your decisions today your decisions to become the person that you want to become to be of Maximum service to God and the people out there whether it’s people in addiction or the people in your community okay question three if you decided to do X today what would your life look like one year from now and remember we were thinking about an area of our life at the beginning of the show thinking about a specific area of our life What would life look like if we actually added that thing in right now What would life look like if we actually cut that thing out right now and a year from now there is so much progress that can happen in one year there is so much progress that can happen in six months or even three months so I want you to imagine yourself if you were to cut this thing out today or add this thing in today make the decision that today is the day what could life look like one year from now and have fun with this imagine yourself living that life someone that has cut this thing out someone that has added this thing in what would happen if we had a strong prayer life every morning every night every lunch and we’re praying for the people out there that we think of we’re praying for the addicts that are suffering us that have recovered we realize that God is real we have been through the experiences that proved to us that God is real what if we all came together and we made the decision that no matter what every morning and every night we are calling on God to help the addicts out there suffering what if that was your decision today what if that was our decision today that no matter what every day we’re praying for the addicts out there suffering I wonder if God would show up I wonder if God would show up what are the pros and cons of continuing to do this in your life now if it was something that you are that you were thinking about cutting out if it’s something that you know you’re supposed to cut out of your life that you know would be good for you if you know it would be beneficial I want you to ponder what are the what are the actual Pros of having this thing in your life if it’s smoking what are the pros of smoking cigarettes if it’s vaping what are the pros of vaping it’s watching porn what are the pros of watching porn whatever this thing is that you that you you know you know you shouldn’t be doing but it’s not heroin it’s not meth you know this thing that you know you shouldn’t be doing if we were to cut that out today what would that look like and What would life look like in a year from now if it doesn’t get cut out be thinking about this get that get that pain in your heart of what life is going to look like if we don’t make the decision today if that thing is going to stick with us for the next year are we going to be able to be the person that we actually want to be a year from now or are we going to look back and be like I wish I would have done it a year from now and then finally make the decision a year from now I was talking to a friend the other day last week and he’s got just under three years sober and he relapsed back in 2018 in my first year and he was he was thinking like man I don’t know if I have time to do these things that I want to do and you know now I feel like I’m so far back and and you know we’ve all had those thoughts like what if I never would have used drugs what if I never would have drank alcohol right what if I never would have relapsed but the thing is is that we’re here now and I don’t want to be someone that a year three years or five years from now looks back on today wishing that I would have made the decision today even if I wish I didn’t use cocaine at 12 years old even if I wish I could go back I can’t none of us can go back we have today we have right now in this moment to change the course of our life into the future who do we want to become who do you want to become do you want to become someone that overcomes this thing that’s in your life right now do you want to be someone that overcomes the the possibility of heart disease do you want to be the person that overcomes the possibility of lung disease or you want to be the person that becomes someone that is able to run up and hug your grandkids I for one want to and I don’t have kids yet so I’m gonna have to be old to play with my grandkids so I for one want to be healthy that’s my that’s my decision last question if you if you were your best friend what advice would you give yourself about this area of your life if you were your best friend what advice would you give yourself about this area of your life listen to that advice understand it and take heed to it I love you guys have an incredible incredible week and keep living recovered on
